Dr. Peña is an Assistant Professor of Educational Psychology at The University of Texas at San Antonio. He is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA-D) in the State of Texas and a licensed behavior analyst (LBA). He received his masters degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Peña completed his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University and is currently working at his alma mater as an Assistant Professor of Research. Dr. Peña has worked with people with disabilities across the life span across different settings such as homes, clinics, community, and a post-secondary education setting.

Dr. Pena's Research InterestsDr. Peña’s research focuses on supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across the lifespan, with a primary emphasis on the transition to adulthood. His work examines pathways to meaningful employment, including promoting success in competitive integrated employment. A central area of interest is understanding the role of social skills in inclusive workplace settings. Challenges in this area can create barriers to forming relationships and may limit opportunities for gaining and sustaining employment. His approach emphasizes person-centered planning, working alongside individuals with disabilities to identify and strengthen their skills. Additional areas of interest include collaborating with individuals with disabilities, employers, educators, job coaches, and others to foster independence and advance meaningful employment outcomes.
