Helping Teachers Become Behavior Analysts

There is a widespread lack of access to ABA-based education for children with autism in San Antonio. This is due in part to a lack of availability of BCBA professionals who can provide the required supervision to teachers seeking to incorporate ABA into their practices. The ultimate goal of Project ABA TEACHER is to address this systemic problem by helping special education teachers become BCBAs in order to incorporate ABA into their teaching practices and classroom management strategies. In doing so, teachers will more effectively meet educational reform law targets such as equity, reliance on evidence-based interventions, and accountability. Teachers will also be able to demonstrate mastery of data-based decision making (i.e., progress monitoring), which is a best practice element of multi-tiered systems of support, response to intervention, school-wide positive behavior support, and evidence-based practices essential for the success of students with autism.

In order to qualify to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), you must obtain a Master's Degree, complete the ABA Coursework, and accrue 2,000 hours of supervised experience in behavior analysis. The ABA TEACHER program is dedicated to helping working teachers earn these requirements.

The "Light Track" is designed for teachers who are seeking immediate support in their classroom. Our team is offering up to 5 hours of free consultation over the course of 1-year. We are able to support teachers in identifying appropriate ways to incorporate ABA in the classroom and problem solve for specific student behavior.

The "Focused Track" are for teachers who are currently enrolled in ABA coursework and are in need of some, but not all, supervision hours. Teachers in the focused track will work with an assigned supervisor to finish their coursework, obtain supervision hours via telehealth, and complete a 6-week fieldwork project.

The "Comprehensive Track" is for teachers who are interested in pursuing their BCBA Certification, but are not currently enrolled in an ABA program. Our team is offering enrollment in the UTSA ABA Master's program, weekly supervision over the course of 2 years, and the opportunity for a paid summer position in 2021.
