Helping Teachers Become School-Based
Behavior Analysts
There is a widespread lack of access to ABA-based education for children with autism in the San Antonio area, particularly for children from historically underrepresented communities such as those who are Hispanic/Latino. One way in which Hispanic/Latino children can easily access ABA-based education is through the public school. However, many teachers are not sufficiently trained and supervised in evidence-based practices to support their academic and behavioral needs. This is due in part to a lack of school-based Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) who can provide the required supervision to teachers who want to incorporate ABA into their practices. The goal of Project ABA TEACHER is to remove the barriers that often face racially/ethnically diverse teachers/educators to earn their BCBA and implement behavior analysis in their classrooms for Hispanic/Latino students with autism. Through this grant funded program ABA TEACHER scholars will meet the requirements to be eligible for the BCBA certification exam while gaining the required fieldwork experience in schools through their own classrooms, as well as other experiential learning opportunities through UTSA.
