Free Respite Care for Families with Children with Autism and Siblings

Details! 

  • No cost to the families 
  • First Friday of each month from 5:00-8:00pm 
  • UTSA Downtown Campus, Durango Building Suite 0.220 
  • Dinner is included! 
  • Priority is given to new families and to families who have not attended in the most recent months​

Activities!

During Caregiver Night Out, attendees will play with other kids in our lab spaces and outside. Activities include crafts, games, dance parties, sports, and a movie at the end of the night! 

Dinner usually takes place around 6:00pm but we encourage sending snacks or a sack lunch if they have strong food preferences.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the age ranges?
Caregiver Night Out is open to individuals 1 year old and up!
How do I register?
In order for your child to attend, their spot MUST be confirmed due to limited availability. The registration form on this page will open around the 15th of the month. About a week later, registration will close you will receive an email informing you whether your child has received a spot. Priority will be given to new families and to children who have not attended in the previous two months.
Do I have to fill out a new form every month?
Yes. In order to ensure your child has a spot and that we have the appropriate resources, please plan to fill out a new form if you would like to return.
Can siblings come too?
Yes! Caregiver Night Out is open to children with autism, children at risk for autism, as well as siblings regardless of whether they have diagnosis.
Does Caregiver Night Out HappeN Every Month?
Caregiver Night Out occurs on the first Friday of the month September through December and February through May. We take a break in January, June, July, and August to focus on other activities.
WHat kind of food do you serve for dinner?
We are grateful to the monetary and in-kind donations that allow us to provide dinner! The menu changes depending on what is available to us but you are welcome to reach out the week leading up to your registered night and we can let you know. You are also welcome to pack your children’s personal food for them to enjoy, just please ensure that they are peanut-free.
Where is it?
Caregiver Night Out is in the basement of the Durango Building, downtown UTSA campus. The most convenient parking area is the DTC Garage. Unfortunately, there is no free parking on the UTSA campus.

Who Will be taking care of my children?
Caregiver Night Out is supervised by UTSA professors and BCBAs. Our volunteers include ABA students, RBTs, teachers training in ABA, and other community members. All staff and volunteers must complete a child protection training and a criminal background check before attending our events.
Help us provide this respite opportunity to more families by volunteering for Caregiver Night Out.
